We have approved funding of more than a million pounds to provide an all-weather 3G football pitch in Potters Bar as part of a wider objective to improve access to sport across our communities.
At a Full Council meeting last night (25 September 2024), members approved the allocation of up to £1,068,810 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding to Potters Bar Town Football Club, following a recommendation by our Cabinet earlier this month.
Councillor Nik Oakley, our Cabinet Member for Planning, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “We are pleased to be providing a significant amount of funding to Potters Bar Town Football Club to install a state-of-the-art 3G pitch which will enable the club, including their youth section, our older communities and outside organisations, to train and to play matches throughout the year.
“Our Playing Pitch Strategy 2019 highlighted a clear lack of available 3G pitches, particularly in Potters Bar, so I’m delighted we are able to fund a new facility which will have wider benefits to our communities in the town and surrounding areas.
“We have made a commitment to allocate our Community Infrastructure Levy money towards providing publicly accessible leisure facilities to benefit the health and wellbeing of all of our residents.”
