Hertsmere’s 50th anniversary prize draw has donated an additional £250 to four good causes in the borough.
The winners of the golden celebration were Hertsmere Mencap, Zenith Trampoline, Comfort Cases UK and DR96 who all thanked their lottery supporters and the council for helping them reach their goals.
Hertsmere Mencap, a local charity supporting people with a learning disability, have helped hundreds of people within our community out of isolation, to learn new skills and provide support and advice where needed. When asked what the additional £250 would be used for, a spokesperson for Hertsmere Mencap, said: “We will be using the prize money to go towards a trip for our members,” and stated that being part of the lottery has generated additional awareness of charity.
Zenith Trampoline Club have been able to purchase new mat covers for members to use with the funding. “Being a part of the Hertsmere Community Lottery has made a huge difference for our fundraising and we would highly recommend for all clubs to jump aboard, it’s quick and easy to apply,” said a spokesperson. The club has previously used funding to provide a coaching course, push in mats, colouring books, pencils and art equipment for the children to do whilst waiting for their turn.
Comfort Cases provide children and young people in foster care with a special bag filled with items of comfort and necessity that they can call their own; such as pyjamas, toiletries, soft toys books blankets and even sim cards for older children. “The power of community is the most valuable asset for any charity. Each and every person has the power to make a difference and volunteering can take many different forms,” a representative from Comfort Cases said.
DR96 is an over sixties club that meets at 96 Shenley Road in Borehamwood every Wednesday morning from 10am, offering a welcome space for local people. Each week they do different activities, including quizzes, bingo, exercise classes and raffles, as well as trips and parties throughout the year.
Councillor Marc Amron, our Member Champion for Hertsmere’s 50th Anniversary, said: “I am delighted that four worthy good causes in our community have received an additional £250 to continue their excellent work.
“Volunteers play a vital role within our community and give so much to local people. It’s nice that the Hertsmere Community Lottery has been able to give something back to them.”
Hertsmere Mencap and Zenith Trampoline both joined the lottery in October 2021. Comfort Cases UK joined in November 2022 and then DR96 a month later in December 2022.
