More than 140 entries for our 2024 seasonal card competition were received by primary school pupils and five talented young artists were chosen to receive prizes and attend a prize-giving presentation with the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Richard Butler, yesterday (Monday 25 November).
A particularly impressive number of entries were received from the students of Aldenham Prep School and the Mayor will be visiting the school in December to thank them for their hard work.
Five year old Kian Troqe from Cowley Hill School and ten year old Maria Schipor from Woodlands Primary School, have been named overall winners of this year’s contest.
Kian’s creative Christmas tree and snowman design, using finger painting and stamps, has been selected as the council’s corporate e-card card. While Maria’s colourful cartoon-style design, featuring Santa with a child receiving presents, has been selected as the Mayor of Hertsmere’s card.
Three runners-up were also announced - Melina Kitibos, age nine, from Ladbrooke JMI School; Sadie Winburn, age four, from Aldenham Prep School; and Oliver Pizzala, age six, from Ladbrooke JMI School.
They all received a certificate, gift voucher, and a pack of their own cards to give to friends and family.
Cllr Butler said: “I was incredibly impressed to see over 140 entries for this year’s competition but it certainly made my decision to pick the winning designs challenging. Seeing so many wonderful designs was a positive reminder of all the amazing creativity displayed by the young people in our borough.
“I would like to thank every school and child who participated. We deeply appreciate the interest our competition receives from the local community.”
