Our new Community Enforcement Team is making a positive difference in Hertsmere, tackling community issues at a local level.
The four new officers are out across the borough to provide a visible presence in the community and engage with residents on solving local issues and enviro-crime.
Since the launch of the team, they have gathered information which has helped the council to issue 16 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for littering, fly-tipping and duty of care offences since May 2024.
The team focus on areas where residents have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and environmental crimes, and their role includes:
- Patrolling the borough to engage, educate and enforce.
- Providing support to members of the public and businesses when on patrol.
- Responding to reports of anti-social behaviour and environmental crime, such as fly tipping.
Cllr Christian Gray, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Neighbourhoods, Enforcement, Economic Development and Transformation, said: “The new recruits have been in training since they started in July, as well as getting out and about in the borough, working closely with council services and partners. They are already making a positive difference to life in Hertsmere and are actively tackling the things that matter most to our communities, such as anti-social behaviour and environmental crime.
“The Community Enforcement Officers will not only take enforcement action; they will also work on prevention, education and reassurance as part of a problem-solving approach to communities’ issues. They are getting to know local people, businesses and communities to understand the issues and how best to address them. We know that connections with our different communities are key to addresses local problems.
“Our officers are a visible presence in Hertsmere; look out for their distinctive red uniforms on your streets or contact the team at community.enforcement@hertsmere.gov.uk or call 020 8207 7435.”
