The Boundary Commission for England is currently conducting a review of Parliamentary constituency boundaries as a result of the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011. The act aims to reduce the number of constituencies in the UK from 650 to 600 and to make more equal the number of electors in each constituency.
The proposal for the Hertsmere constituency is the inclusion of the ward of Carpenders Park from Three Rivers District Council into the existing Parliamentary boundary. All other boundaries remain the same. This
- mappdf file[205KB]
shows the proposed boundaries.
More information is provided in this
- summary of the proposal for the Eastern Regionpdf file[146KB]
(which Hertsmere forms part of).
Please note these proposals only affect the Parliamentary boundary, not Hertsmere’s local government boundary. The proposed inclusion of the Carpenders Park ward would mean electors here would vote for Hertsmere’s Member of Parliament at a general election only, in all other respects this area would remain part of Three Rivers District Council.
The consultation on these initial proposals runs from now until 5 December 2016. Residents and interested parties can contribute during this period and you can find guidance about how to do so on the Boundary Commission for England’s website. The commission will also be hosting public hearings across England and the details are as follows:
Chelmsford | Civic Centre, Duke Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1JE | Monday 31 October to Tuesday 1 November 2016 |
Norwich | The Assembly House, Theatre Street, Norwich, NR2 1RQ | Thursday 3 to Friday 4 November 2016 |
Luton | Town Hall, George Street, Luton, LU1 2BQ | Monday 7 to Tuesday 8 November 2016 |
