Influential and inspiring women leaders from across Hertsmere came together for a networking event to help ‘accelerate action’ ahead of International Women’s Day.
The event, organised by our Chief Executive, Sajida Bijle, in partnership with Chief Inspector Ashleigh Hair of Hertfordshire Constabulary, aimed to highlight that we all have a role to play in acting decisively for women and girls.
At the event, Chief Executive Sajida Bijle said: “It’s fantastic to have an opportunity to network with female leaders from across the borough to discuss issues and focus on how we can work together to harness change.
“International Women’s Day has grown in momentum as we continue to strive for genuine gender equality. The theme this year is ‘Accelerate Action’ which I believe is a clear call to action. In our respective roles, we are all committed not only to achieving gender parity but also doing everything we collectively can to act decisively and protect women and girls from violence.”
Chief Inspector of Hertsmere Ashleigh Hair said: “History teaches us when women leaders come together, we amplify our voices, pool our resources and create a united front, then the rights of women advance. Imagine the impact we can have when we advocate for policies that protect survivors, support education and empower initiatives, and challenge the cultural norms that condone violence. Each of us brings a unique perspective and it is in this diversity that our strength lies.
“The safety of women and girls, as a police officer, is extremely important to me. I have a mother, a daughter, I am an aunt and a woman. In my view, we all have a vested interest in combatting violence against women and girls. Each of us, using our collective influence, can play a part in creating safer places, be it politics, business, education or the arts, have the ability to shape narratives, alter perceptions and drive meaningful change.”
International Women’s Day 2025 takes place on Saturday 8 March. It is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
