Did you know that Hertsmere now has a Beryl bike and e-bike share scheme?
You can hire one of 40 pedal bikes and 20 e-bikes via the Beryl app, available for free download on the App Store for iOS, and the Google Play Store for Android users.
The bikes can be hired and left at any one of 24 Beryl Bays, which were located following extensive consultation with communities and key stakeholders. You can view all the bay locations on the Beryl website and in the Beryl app.
The bikes are not only fun, sustainable and a great addition to a healthy lifestyle, they’re also cost-effective compared to petrol-powered vehicles. You can take advantage of a few different ways to pay.
Pay as You Ride
Pay as You Ride does exactly what it says. Pay and unlock fee and then you are charged per minute. Once you lock the bike or e-bike, the cost of your journey will be calculated and you will be charged.
- Bikes cost £1 to unlock and 5p per minute
- E-bikes cost £1.50 to unlock and 10p per minute for e-bikes.
Minute Bundles - the most cost effective way to ride
Minute Bundles are the cheapest and most convenient way to ride. Purchase your bundle in advance and it will automatically be deducted as you ride. Even better, there is no unlock fee for pedal bikes (e-bike unlock fee still applies).
- 100 minutes for £5
- 200 minutes for £10
- 300 minutes for £15
- 400 minutes for £20
Day Pass
Day Passes give you unlimited use of a pedal bike or pedal bikes and e-bikes for 24 hours. Perfect for a day riding with friends or when you have visitors to show around.
- Pedal bike Day Pass £12
- Pedal and e-bike Day Pass £16
The scheme has been introduced to inspire more people to take up sustainable travel options and contribute towards reducing road congestion and improving air quality and public health. Its introduction reaffirms the council’s sustainability aims and commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions no later than 2050.
The scheme is funded by Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy, Section 106 contribution from SKY Studios and Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy from Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.
