Article 4 Directions remove some, or all, of the permitted development rights of particular buildings. This means that some forms of development that are normally permitted would require full planning application.

A conservation area is 'an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance'. Hertsmere currently has 16 conservation areas.
Statutory listed buildings are buildings, objects or structures that have been judged to be of national historical or architectural interest. They are designated by Historic England.
We maintain a list of Locally Important Buildings in Hertsmere, which includes over 300 buildings of local significance. Inclusion on the local list provides extra protection for buildings which are not on the national register of listed buildings.
