The Leader of the Council has warmly welcomed the announcement of a new partnership between the Italian global helicopter company, Leonardo, and Aldenham Aviation, the owner of Elstree Aerodrome.
Through the partnership, Leonardo will be, subject to some remaining planning processes, increasing its maintenance, repair and overhaul services to commercial helicopter customers in the UK, bringing welcome investment in the borough and contributing to Hertsmere’s wider skills agenda.
Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the Council, commented: “I am delighted that Leonardo has chosen to invest in Hertsmere through this exciting new partnership.
“By making Elstree a key hub for its internationally-renowned company, Leonardo is highlighting that Hertsmere is a great destination for multi-national businesses. It is clear that the hi-tech support services to be provided at the planned new hub will also open up huge skills and training opportunities in the area, helping to address a skills deficit.
“I know that local people will be pleased that this exciting development will have minimal impact upon air traffic around the area. I’m also pleased that Leonardo will be engaging directly with the local community once the planning details for this permitted development scheme are finalised.”
