Bin collection service updates

Any changes to our waste and recycling service will be updated here.

20/05/2024 - we will be unable to collect green bins from some of the roads in Potters Bar today. Please leave your bin out and we will try and return at some point this week.

Improved household waste and recycling collections

Residents in Hertsmere will receive improved household waste and recycling collections under plans to boost recycling and meet our environmental commitments, helping the borough to reduce avoidable waste.

From 30 October 2023 we will only empty one black bin per property, enforcing our existing single black bin policy.
From April 2024 you can subscribe to a new green waste collection service.
And from April 2025 we will be launching a new kerbside food waste collection service.

Extra waste and recycling

We are unable to increase collections or collect any additional side waste.

Please continue to use your brown bin to full capacity, wash and squash bottles/cans, cut up cardboard and if unable to fit all recycling in the bin please store it until the following collection or take it to a Recycling Centre.

Black bin waste should also be stored as cleanly as possible, i.e. wash out any non-recyclables, dirty foil, etc and use your green bin for food waste.
